Dear Friends,
Happy July, and welcome to the second half of 2023. We’ve made it. The pandemic is done, the economy is back, web3 is dead, AI is everywhere, and anything could happen next.
It’s nice that the Independence Day holiday will be on a Tuesday this year, which should help make a long weekend just a bit longer. I hope it’s a welcome break for everyone who is celebrating!
Three years ago, I wrote about being proud to be American in From the Redwood Forest, to the Gulf Stream waters. Still holds today.

Coatue’s East Meets West Deck. It’s a narrative full of facts and charts we’ve already discussed in this newsletter. The biggest piece that I still track is the premium and performance in the LTM of the ‘magnificent seven’ (Meta, Alphabet, Apple, Nvidia, Tesla, Amazon, Microsoft). Who knows where it goes.
How Tough Is the Fundraising Environment Actually? PitchBook report. Remember, the bar for 2023 is just Q1.
AI Agents: Next Frontier to Access the Web. A good overview essay on how Gen AI now enables the widespread availability of services that were once exclusive to the privileged few, e.g., personal assistants, therapists, personal coaches, content creation, coding. We will see. The excitement of the week is around Pi from Inflection.AI. Check it out for yourself :)
Modern Machine Learning at Euclidean: How the Technology Behind ChatGPT Influenced Our Approach. Excellent blog by John Alberg, CEO and founder of Euclidean ETF. I met John at Capital Camp and was impressed by his thoughtfulness and analytical rigor.
Song of the Week: I Can Change
Video on YouTube.
I love these 80s-sounding songs with strong lyrics. I Can Change was released in 2009 but could have fooled me.
It’s a song with mounting desperation that the vocalist can change to keep love alive. But no one can change that much, and it’s better to just be your best self.
“I Can Change” by LCD Soundsystem
And love is a curse
Shoved in a hearse
Love is an open book to a verse
Of your bad poetry
And this is coming from me
But I can change, I can change, I can change, I can change
I can change, I can change, I can change
If it helps you fall in love (in love)

Neil & I are enjoying Suerte with friends in Austin. Yes, it’s hot, but we’re thriving.
Thanks for reading, friends. Please always be in touch.
As always,
